Farmers' Markets: Saturday mornings from 8am to 12 noon - at the corner of Tunbridge and Farrelly Streets Margaret River. Make an early start and procure cheap (free range) eggs, wonderful vegetables, fruit, bread and pastries, superb cheese, home-made delicacies, local produce, meat and (frozen) seafood. Organic produce is available and there's usually a coffee van on site, so you can start off your day with a bang! It's a great opportunity to shop farmer-direct for quality (local) produce at affordable prices. Australian String Quartet: The highly regarded ASQ is visiting the Margaret River region between 3 and 5 May 2013 and will perform concerts at each of Cullen Wines, Voyager Estate, Leeuwin Estate and Vasse Felix. Various food and concert packages are available through www.asq.com.au and will be highly prized by lovers of classical music. Whale watching: From June to September each year, Southern Right and Humpback whales gather in Flinders Bay (Augusta) before commencing their migration up the western coast of Australia. To get the best viewing, you can drive down to Augusta and watch from coastal roads, or book a whale watching cruise with Legend Charters (0419 908 742) - if you mention that you're staying at Margaret River Hideaway, you'll be entitled to a 10% discount. Margaret River Agricultural Show: This marvellous event, which has operated since 1929, showcases the rural activities which have been the fabric of this society since the region was first settled. Sheep dog trials, equestrian events and cattle judging add to the colourful spectacle; and the locals are out in force displaying a wide range of rural produce. Held on the 18th and 19th of October at Gloucester Park, the Margaret River Agricultural Show is a must see event. Margaret River Gourmet Escape: Get in early and book your accommodation for this fabulous weekend which, in 2013, will run from Friday 22 to Sunday 24 November. Judging by the success of the inaugural event in 2012, this will be another smashing weekend of fun, food tasting, cooking shows, theatre events and special dinners. To keep abreast of all that's happening, we recommend you visit www.gourmetescape.com.au and subscribe to the newsletter. Your visit could be even more enjoyable if coupled with one of the many events which are on offer - particularly between October and April. We'll do our best to keep you informed! |
